At St Vincent's Catholic Primary School, our Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) curriculum is central to our commitment to educating the whole child. Through a carefully sequenced, knowledge-rich and inclusive curriculum, we equip pupils with the knowledge, understanding, values and life skills they need to develop healthy relationships, care for their physical and mental wellbeing, keep themselves safe, and become responsible, compassionate and active members of society.
Our curriculum prepares pupils for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences they will encounter in modern Britain and beyond, enabling them to flourish as confident, respectful and active members of society. It supports children to develop resilience, confidence and independence, make informed and responsible choices, celebrate diversity, understand economic wellbeing, develop digital resilience and become respectful citizens who contribute positively to their communities.
Our curriculum is underpinned by the statutory Relationships, Sex and Health Education guidance and is informed by the PSHE Association Programme of Study and the Catholic Education Service's Journey in Love programme. Knowledge is carefully sequenced from the Early Years Foundation Stage to Year 6, enabling pupils to revisit key concepts, deepen their understanding and make meaningful connections between their learning and everyday lives.
Through high-quality texts, significant people, real-life contexts, meaningful discussion and reflection, pupils explore relationships, health, wellbeing, safety, diversity and citizenship in an age-appropriate way. They develop confidence, resilience, empathy and independence, learning to make informed decisions, respect others and understand their responsibilities within their school, local community and the wider world.
By the time pupils leave St Vincent's Catholic Primary School, they will have the knowledge, confidence, values and moral understanding to build positive relationships, make informed decisions and flourish in an ever-changing world. They will be well prepared for the next stage of their education and for life beyond primary school, living out our mission to love, serve and learn as Jesus shows us.
