Welcome to Pine Class

Welcome to Pine Class, where every child is valued, understood and supported to reach their full potential. Our KS2 designated provison is for children with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) and communication and interaction needs.

We pride ourselves on creating a caring, nurturing and emotionally safe environment where each child's individual needs are prioritised and their wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that childen need to feel safe, valued, respected and a sense of belonging before they are ready and able to engage fully in their learning. Building positive relationships and creating a strong sense of trust is therefore fundamental in Pine Class.

In English and Maths, we follow the National Curriculum, with learning carefully adapted and tailored to each child's needs. Our aim is to ensure that every child experiences success, develops confidence and is able to make meaningful, personalised steps of progress. We celebrate individual achievements and recognise that progress looks different for every child. 

Our afternoon lessons follow a topic based approach, providing opportuntiies to develop a broad range of skills alongside learning about the wider world. Topics incorporate areas such as Geography, History, Science, PSHE and the wider curriculum, alongside a strong focus on communication, life skills and independence. Learning is designed to be purposeful, engaging and relevant to our children, helping them to develop skills that will support them both within school and in their wider lives. 

In Pine Class, we believe relationships, wellbeing and belonging are the foundations for learning. With a high staff-to-child ratio, we are able to prioritise each child's individual needs, ensuring they feel valued, supported and ready to reach their full potential.

Inclusion

Our classroom is situated within the main school building, enabling our children to feel a valued part of the wider school community. We actively promote inclusion and opportunities for our children to develop relationships and shared experiences with their peers across school. They are encouraged to take part in wider school activities, such as assemblies, trips and theme days.  Where appropriate, the children will be encouraged to take part in mainstream lessons alongside their peers, with the support of an adult in place, to build on their communication and social interaction skills to help them strive to achieve.

Assessment

Children are assessed in small, achievable steps that reflect their individual progress. We track learning across the National Curriculum as well as personal targets linked to each child's individual EHCP outcomes. Regular reviews take place with parents and the Local Authority as part of the EHCP process, ensuring that progress is closely monitored and celebrated.

Parent Communication

We believe that strong partnerships between home and school are fundamental, therefore each child will recieve a Home/School communication book. This will be completed by school daily to give parents/carers an overview of their child's day and enable home to inform school of any changes or celebrations that you would like to share. 

Transitions

Transitions are planned carefully for each child to ensure a smooth and positive start. This may include visits to the child’s current setting, a parent tour of the school, and a transition meeting with the Designated Provision Lead. We work closely with families and professionals to make sure every child feels safe, settled and ready to join us here at St Vincent's within Pine Class.

Funding and admissions

Places in the designated provision are funded separately from the mainstream budget to ensure that we can meet the needs of the children effectively.  The school cannot allocate places directly.  Places are allocated by the Local Authority and follow a submission to a panel of experts and discussions with parents.
