Key Stage 2 Designated Provision

Welcome to Pine Class
At St Vincent's Catholic Primary School we have a designated provision for children with an Education and Health Care Plan (EHCP) for communication and interaction needs. Our provision is an 8 place Key Stage 2 class for children aged 7 to 11 years old.
In Pine Class, children are taught in a caring, nurturing environment where each child is supported to reach their full potential. The classroom is situated within the main school so that children feel part of the wider community, and it also has access to a secure outdoor area that the children can access, as well as the main school playground. The children follow the National Curriculum which is personalised to support the development of life skills, communication skills and independence. We have high staff ratios within the class, typically being one teacher and two teaching assistants.
Inclusion
The children in Pine Class are valued members of St Vincent's Catholic Primary School and they are encouraged to take part in wider school actvitities, such as assemblies, trips and theme days. Where appropriate, the children will be encouraged to take part in mainstream lessons alongside their peers, with the support of an adult in place, to build on their communication and social interaction skills to help them strive to achieve and give them a sense of belonging.
Assessment
Children are assessed in small, achievable steps that reflect their individual progress. We track learning across the National Curriculum as well as personal targets linked to each child's individual EHCP outcomes. Regular reviews take place with parents and the Local Authority as part of the EHCP process, ensuring that progress is closely monitored and celebrated.
Parent Communication
We believe that strong partnerships between home and school are fundamental, therefore each child will recieve a Home/School communication book. This will be completed by school daily to give parents/carers an overview of their child's day and enable home to inform school of any changes or celebrations that you would like to share.
Transitions
Transitions are planned carefully for each child to ensure a smooth and positive start. This may include visits to the child’s current setting, a parent tour of the school, and a transition meeting with the Designated Provision Lead. We work closely with families and professionals to make sure every child feels safe, settled and ready to join us here at St Vincent's within Pine Class.
Funding and admissions
Places in the designated provision are funded separately from the mainstream budget to ensure that we can meet the needs of the children effectively. The school cannot allocate places directly. Places are allocated by the Local Authority and follow a submission to a panel of experts and discussions with parents.
